Letter telling Dave that Ted can't come to Alpine because the logging schedule had changed due to weather. Ted is very unhappy w/plans to log the area near him. Complaining of noise and disruption. Also mentions difficulty in getting to Alpine via Greyhound and the cost of doing so. Translation: Discusses Dave's Spanish, giving him the book El Comendador Mendoza (The Knight Mendoza), by Juan Vales.
