There has been a revival in America of raku pottery making, ancient process used by Japanese and Korean potters 400 years ago for creating ceremonial tea bowls. Raymond F. Lewis, visiting assistant professor of art from University of Delaware, introduced the art to ceramics students at BSC this summer along with Indian firing, wheel throwing, hand-building, shaping and glaze compounding. The outdoor demonstration created a lot of interest among students.
